Pithy Quotes

  • “When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”
  • Until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other's welfare, social justice can never be attained.
  • “If you tremble with indignation at every injustice then you are a comrade of mine.”

The Mad Farmer Manifesto

Mr. Johnson is married with four daughters, two dogs, and two cats. Mr. Johnson's daughters have graduated from university or are pursuing advanced degrees. Kerrie, his oldest daughter has completed work on her MSW at the University of Vermont. Caitlin is pursuing a Master's Degree in molecular biology at East Carolina University. Erin is a graduate of the Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy at URI. Andrea, the youngest, just completed her BS in Biology with a minor in writing. While she contemplates graduate programs, she is working in a biotechnology lab at URI. Andrea was recently offered a job at Monsanto, but couldn't forgive the soulless multinational for their reprehensible treatment of Rachel Carson. Mr. Johnson's wife, Karen, is a Nurse Practitioner. During her abundant free time, Karen also teaches piano. Mr. Johnson has several college degrees reflecting his lifelong inability to formulate and complete a plan. Some of Mr. Johnson's favorite people, besides his wife and children, are Howard Zinn, Ralph Nader, Ted Williams, Richard Walton, Henry Wallace, Uncle Dave and Aunt Margretta, Naomi Klein, Marissa Tomei, and James Hansen and Sharon Olds.
